Category list:Teaching & Learning Web & Software Development

This software is available from the Software Center or Self Service on staff computers running the Deakin Desktop.

Java is a set of computer software and specifications for developing application software and deploying it in a cross-platform computing environment. Java can be used to build and deploy a web application, or an app for mobile devices. It may be a required component for a development tool like Visual Studio or Android Studio. Some open source desktop apps sometimes require an installation of Java as a dependency.

There are two main types of Java available: Oracle Java, which is ONLY licensed for use with Callista, and OpenJDK, which is the free, open source version anyone can use.

For help with Java, visit the Adoptium OpenJDK support website.
